Good Questions

Everything you might ask before your first scoop.

We make one honest laundry powder from four simple ingredients, by hand, in small batches. Here are the questions we hear most — answered plainly, with no overpromising. If yours isn't below, we'd genuinely love to hear it: send us a note and a real person (one of the two of us) will write back.

The Powder & Cleaning

How it actually cleans

It's simpler than most laundry products, and that's the point. Washing soda does the heavy lifting — it raises the water's pH and lifts away everyday dirt and body oils. Baking soda softens water and helps with odors so the washing soda can work better. Epsom salt and sea salt round things out, helping the powder dissolve and keeping clothes feeling fresh. Together, those four ingredients handle the dirt that builds up in normal wear and washing.

We left out the fillers, dyes, optical brighteners, and synthetic fragrance that pad out most detergents. So while the ingredient list is short, every bit of what's in the box is doing real work.

For everyday dirt, sweat, and body oils, it does great on its own. For tougher set-in stains — grease, protein stains like blood or grass, or anything that's already dried in — we'll be honest with you: pre-treating first makes a real difference. Dab the spot, give it a minute, then wash as usual.

We don't add enzymes or harsh stain-fighting chemicals, which is part of what keeps the formula gentle. An enzyme-boosted version is something we're exploring for the future, but it isn't something we sell today.

Warm or hot water dissolves the powder best and gives you the strongest clean. It does work in cold water too — just give it a hand. Pre-dissolve a scoop in a cup of warm water and pour that into the drum before you start the cold cycle. That one small step keeps everything dissolving fully so you don't see any powder left behind.

It shouldn't, as long as the powder fully dissolves. The two things that cause residue are too much powder and water that's too cold to dissolve it. So stick to about one tablespoon per load, add it to the drum rather than the dispenser tray, and pre-dissolve a scoop for cold washes. Do that and your clothes come out clean and residue-free.

It's made with sensitive skin in mind. There's no synthetic fragrance, no dyes, no optical brighteners, and none of the harsh additives that commonly irritate skin. Many people choose our Unscented version for babies and for eczema-prone or reactive skin, since it has no added scent at all.

That said, everyone's skin is different and we're not able to make medical claims. If you have a known sensitivity, we'd suggest the Unscented powder and, as with any new product, watching how your skin responds at first.

Scent

What it smells like

Light — on purpose, and we want to be upfront about it. Our scented powders use a small amount of real essential oil, so you'll notice a gentle, natural smell while you're handling the powder and on freshly washed laundry. It's a clean, subtle scent, not a heavy perfume.

Because it's real essential oil and not synthetic fragrance, it fades as clothes dry and over time. If you're used to detergents that leave a strong, lingering smell, this will feel softer. That's the honest tradeoff of going natural.

Yes. We only ever use real essential oils for scent — never synthetic fragrance, and never phthalates or the other ingredients hidden in most "fragrance" listings. If a powder is scented, that smell comes from plants, full stop.

Just the four core ingredients — washing soda, baking soda, epsom salt, and sea salt — with no essential oils or scent of any kind added. It's our most stripped-back option and the one we point people toward for the most sensitive skin or for anyone who simply prefers no smell at all.

No, and we'd rather set the right expectation. Even our scented powders leave only a light, natural smell that softens as laundry dries. Clothes come out smelling clean and fresh rather than heavily perfumed. If you choose Unscented, they'll just smell like clean laundry with no added scent at all.

Machines & Use

Using it day to day

Yes. The powder is low-sudsing, which is exactly what HE machines need, so it's safe in both HE and standard top- and front-loaders. Just add it straight to the drum rather than the detergent tray.

Yes. With no phosphates, chlorine bleach, or harsh synthetic additives, the powder is septic-safe and gentle on the systems your water flows into after the wash.

About one tablespoon for a normal load. For large or heavily soiled loads, use two. A little goes a long way — using more won't clean better and can leave residue, so it's worth measuring rather than eyeballing a big scoop.

Add it directly to the drum, right in with your clothes — not the dispenser tray. Powder can clump and stick in trays, so putting it straight in the drum helps it dissolve fully and reach your laundry. For cold washes, pre-dissolve a scoop in warm water first and pour that into the drum.

Absolutely. Dissolve a small scoop in a basin of warm water, let it dissolve fully, then add your items. Warm water helps it work best, and a good rinse afterward leaves everything clean.

Sizes, Shipping & Returns

Ordering & getting it to you

At about a tablespoon per load, the Starter (32 oz) gives you roughly 60 loads, and both the Standard (80 oz) and the Refill pouch (80 oz) give you about 150 loads each. Large or heavily soiled loads use a bit more, so your real-world count depends on how you wash.

Three options: the Starter at 32 oz (~60 loads) for $16, the Standard at 80 oz (~150 loads) for $32, and a Refill pouch at 80 oz (~150 loads) for $28 — a lower-waste, lower-cost way to top up once you know you love it. You can see them all on the shop page.

Shipping is free on US orders over $35. Everything ships from the USA, and we get orders out within 1–3 business days. Once it's on its way, the carrier's delivery time depends on where you are.

We back every order with our 100-load happiness promise. Give it a real try, and if it's not for you within 30 days or your first ~100 loads, let us know and we'll make it right with a refund. Love it or your money back — simple as that. Just reach out and we'll take care of you.
